Borrow Direct is a consortium of seven institutions in the
northeast--Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Princeton, University
of Pennsylvania, and Yale. We started a pilot project with three
institutions (Columbia, Penn, and Yale) in late 1999 and added four
additional members a couple of years later. At the present time,
there are no plans to expand further.
We borrow/lend books only, batch ship loans and returns via UPS, and
achieve an 85% fill rate and four-business-day turnaround time
overall. I know Borrow Direct is a very successful and popular
service here at Yale and I believe that's true at all of our partner
institutions.
