[ILL-L] question about international shipping

Yep, Amy, this is a result of the new postal rates that went into effect
a few weeks ago. We didn't realize that the international shipping had
gone up so much until our mail room clerk informed us that a package
going to Scotland was going to cost close to $60 to ship! I think this
is all part of the new way that they figure the postage, which takes
into account not only the weight, but also the size of the package.
There is no more "Air Mail," but it is now called "Global Prioroty" (and
then there's "Global Priority Express" which is even more $$$). We're
having our mail room keep a log of international shipping costs for the
next month or so and then we're going to reassess our international
lending fees to accommodate the new higher charges. Fortunately, the
higher rates don't seem to apply to Canadian shipments, which account
for the majority of our international lending.
