[ILL-L] UPS only or are you flexible?

If our library is paying for the delivery, we use UPS since we have arrangements with UPS, for pickup and other issues related to 'metering'.

We don't have that arrangement with FedEx, so sending with them is time and labor intensive for the ILL staff. We only send via FedEx if the borrowing library is paying for the delivery and they don't have an account with UPS AND for some reason the charge can't be passed through IFM.

If we have paid UPS to deliver something, it would seem to me the burden lies with UPS to deliver, to whatever location is specified on the package, and that the same would apply to any other courier service, whether or not they do much delivery to that area.

Hi all,

I just received a question from another list and thought I would ask you all. I've wondered this too so figured this would be a good chance to clear things up for me.

When you request items you've loaned to be returned to your library by a specific ground transport company, do you have a problem with libraries when they return items by another ground transport company.

The person asking said they get a lot of requests to return items by UPS, but their mail room doesn't use UPS any longer, just FedEx.

Is a different company a major problem for you or does it not matter?

Thanks!
